Beginnings of the Working Wife

I know this blog is called “Working Wife Life”, but right now I’m not feeling like much of a wife. I’m working plenty, two jobs in fact. One job as a marketer and the other as a journalist, but I’ll get into that later. The problem is that my husband, we’ll call him Jack, has been in another country for the past 10 months. I suppose you’ll be wondering why he’s been gone for so long, and the reason is that he’s a soldier. This is the first deployment we’ve experienced together.

He left last summer and since then I’ve spent my time trying to adjust. Sure, I’ve done other things like finish my Bachelor’s degree, but the hardest hurdle I’ve faced has been dealing with the separation. Jack and I had only been married for six months when he left. I was just getting used to being married when I had to get used to being alone again. So, I don’t really know what the point of this blog is at this point because I’m not doing many wifely duties. Well, that’s not entirely true. I’m busy preparing for Jack to come home.

I’ve been cooking a lot lately, trying to learn new healthy recipes and hoping to perfect my recipe arsenal. My husband, like every other man, loves to eat and I know he’s getting sick of chow hall food. Not that it’s terrible. In fact, he told me that he regularly eats steak and shrimp for dinner (jealous!) However, he has to eat the same things week in week out and even though they taste good, they don’t have variety and they don’t have me. So, I’ve baked a Coconut Devil’s Food Cake, Honey Apple Chicken, Coconut Korma Chicken, and a variety of other delicious things. Recipes pending.

Anyway, I suppose this blog will be a way for me to share recipes, sort-of-secrets for keeping sane while working a full-time job and marriage, and photos (because I dabble). More to come soon.
